Dolphins Send Waddle to Broncos for Draft Picks and More Dead Money

It seems like the Miami Dolphins are going through a complete team overhaul to start this 2026 NFL player signing season. The dolphins finished with a 7-10 record last season forcing team management to make some moves, but this is getting kind of out of hand.

The first thing the Dolphins did was cut ties with head coach Mike McDaniel and bring in Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley. Then it was quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and troubled wide receiver Tyreek Hill that were dismissed from the team.

The Dolphins have also moved on safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, linebacker Bradley Chubb and linebacker KJ Britt from the defense. Punter Jake Bailey will also be suiting up for the Atlante Falcons next season.

Now the Dolphins have decided to part ways with their leading receiver from a year ago by sending Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos along with a fourth-round pick. In return the Dolphins receive the Broncos 2026 first round pick at 30, a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick.

Waddle is a solid receiver and should fit well in head coach Sean Payton's high-flying offense. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix now has plenty of targets to get the ball down the field with. Now he just needs a couple more linemen to protect him, so he stays healthy.

Moving on Waddle also means that the Dolphins will have to eat part of his contract. The Dolphins have a $302 millions salary cap and $165 million of that is being eaten up by dead money being paid to players not even on the team anymore.

By moving off these crazy contracts means the Dolphins are going to have to depend on draft picks and low-cost players to fill open positions on their team for the 2026 and 2027 seasons at the least. Moving off these contracts will however open up cap space when it's time to resign players after rookie contracts down the road or bring in more sought-after free agents that they do not have the money for now.
