The Dallas Cowboys started the season off with a big win over a questionable Cleveland Browns team. Week two of the season was a different story for the over-hyped Cowboys. Week two was a complete 44-19 beat down by the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints whooped the Cowboys from one end of the field to the other for almost 60 minutes. They took the opening kickoff and drove the length of the field with their offense against a Cowboys defense that couldn't stop a fart with a buttplug.
The Saints offense was not to be stopped. They scored on their first six possessions with ease. A couple of those possessions were less than five plays. The 35 first half points were the most allowed in one half in franchise history.
Saints veteran quarterback Derek Carr picked the Cowboys top ranked defense apart through the air and on the ground with the use of his running backs. Carr pretty much played a perfect game completing 11 of 16 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also scored a touchdown with his legs from the goal line on a sneak. The only mistake Carr made was an interception late when the game was out of hand. He was also sacked once.
Carr wasn't the only Saints player that feasted on a helpless Cowboys defense. Running back Alvin Kamara had a career day with 20 carries for 115 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He also had two receptions for 65 yards and a long touchdown.
Saints wide receiver Rasheed Shaheed also had a huge 70 yard catch go for a touchdown. Shaheed led the way for the Saints receivers with four receptions for 96 yards to to along with his touchdown. Receiver Chris Olave also had a decent day with four receptions for 81 yards but couldn't find the endzone.
The Saints offense completely dismantled the Cowboys defense. Their defense pretty much shutdown the Cowboys questionable offense all game long also. This isn't really a surprise though. That offense is one dimensional and doesn't take a whole lot to slow down or completely stop like the Saints defense did.
The Cowboys offense couldn't finish drives. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott would take his unit down the field then have to let kicker Brandon Aubrey finish the drives. Prescott finished the game with 27 of 39 completions for 293 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and three sacks.
The only reason Prescott managed to throw a touchdown was Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb ducked between a couple defenders and hauled ass to the endzone. Other than that it was just a lot of yards racked up by Dak and his receivers with three points by Aubrey.
We can't really put all the offensive struggles on Dak. Once again the Cowboys failed to produce much of anything on the ground with their horrible running backs. It was Rico Dowdle leading the way against the Saints with seven caries for 30 yards. Ezekiel Elliot was even worse with six carries for 16 yards.
The Cowboys do not have a running game whatsoever. As long as teams keep pressure on Prescott they have a pretty good chance of shutting down all scoring as well as keeping the Cowboys offense off the field for a lot of the game just like the Saints did.
Next week the Cowboys have to play a struggling Baltimore Ravens team that has failed to win either one of their first two games. This could end up being a game neither team win considering how bad both are. Lets just hope for the best. Nice way to waste a few hundred million dollars so far to start the season.
