Cowboys bring in Clowney For a Tryout but No Contract Signed

Week 1 of the NFL season proved to be a positive for the Dallas Cowboys despite losing 24-20 to the Philadelphia Eagles to kick the season off. The loss leaves the Cowboys behind the Eagles and Washington Redskins in the NFL East Standings early.

This week the Cowboys will face another division rival with the New York Giants coming to the the DFW for the Cowboys home opener of the 2025 season. Last season the Cowboys were horrible at home with a 1-5 record with their only win coming against the Giants 27-20 during the Thanksgiving game.

Even though the Cowboys lost week 1 to the Eagles they looked good and played a pretty solid game. They managed to hold the league's top rusher under 100 yards on the ground but couldn't stop quarterback Jalen Hurts when he would scramble.

Gaining defensive lineman Kenny Clark proved valuable but seeing Hurts run the way he did on the outside may be costly with Micah Parsons now playing with the Green Bay Packers. Hopefully the Cowboys made a positive move on Wednesday when management brought in veteran edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney for tryouts.

Clowney was a top draft pick by the Houston Texans in the 2014 NFL Draft but never panned out to be worth the pick he was taken with. Clowney has however been a solid player of his time in the league playing for multiple teams.

During the 10 seasons that Clowney has spent in the league he has played for six different teams where he has racked up 140 games played in. The only seasons Clowney played in under 10 games was his rookie season due to injury and in 2020 for the Tennessee Titans. Other than those two seasons Clowney has been pretty dependable for teams.

In the 140 games Clowney has played in he has amassed 409 total tackles with 272 of those being solo, 58 sacks, 15 forced Fumbles, nine fumble recoveries and one interception.

Clowney would bring the veteran leadership and edge pressure to a Cowboys team that needs a player that can make an instant difference now Parsons is not lurking around hunting quarterbacks with a star on his helmet.

Even without Clowney the Cowboys should be able to pick up their first win of the season during week 2. Last week the Giants offense was offensive to watch at times during their 21-6 blowout loss to the Redskins.
