Linebacker Micah Parsons finally received the contract and money that he wanted after pretty much throwing a fit and causing a distraction all the Dallas Cowboys offseason and training camp.
The only thing is, Parsons did not get that contract and money from Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. The Green Bay Packers signed Parsons to a four-year deal after the Cowboys traded him early in the day on, Thursday.Parsons new deal is for $188 million with $136 million guaranteed. He will also receive $61 million in the first year of his new deal with his new team. This deal puts Parsons over TJ Watt in highest deal made for a non-quarterback.
In Return for Parsons the Cowboys picked up defensive lineman Kenny Clark and two first round picks. Not bad for a player the Cowboys took in the first round of the 2021 draft. A draft class that were basically picked on whims thanks to the Covid Plandemic shutdown that plagued our country at the time. Some of these players didn't even play in the games that season that were permitted to be played one of those players being Parsons at Penn State.
Kenny Clark was the 27th overall pick in the 2016 draft. During that time with the Packers, he was a three-time Pro bowl selection and started 126 out of 140 career games. Clark was also the longest tenured played on the Packers roster.
Clark was a massive impact for the Packers defensive line with 417 total tackles, 35 sacks, eight fumble recoveries, seven forced fumbles and 12 pass breakups. This man will make an instant impact for a Cowboys defensive line that needed a presence up front in the middle.
Clark will join Osa Odighizuwa as the Cowboys veterans while welcoming newly signed Perrion Winfrey from the UFL and former first round pick Masi Smith. This is a Cowboys defense that is deep at most positions. As long as they can put some pressure on the quarterback and at least try to stop the run this team might actually finish with a decent record this season.
The first week of the season will really set the tone and show us what type of Cowboys team we are working with this season when they face the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. This is a game that can decide the NFC East division right out the gate.
Personally...I'm glad Parsons is out...Got a solid return for him in two first rounders over the next couple years...The Cowboys can use those for rookies or trade bait for other players that fit better.
Parsons never showed up in big games when the team needed him the most. He was mostly a sideline and off-field distraction with his social media posts. Even former Cowboys star DeMarcus Lawrence responded to one of Parsons posts telling him if he was a factor on the field and not on Twitter he may have never left the Cowboys.
