What in the world is going on with Max Crosby? If you though Geno Smith getting traded back to the New York Jets was wild, that has nothing on this Max Crosby situation. It's still funny Smith getting traded back to the Jets though.
Crosby has been at the heights of trade talks since last season. Crosby is still at heights of trade talks as league doors open on this fine Wednesday even though he was supposed to have been traded to the Baltimore Ravens last week pending league year starting.
That trade didn't happen though. The Ravens decided to take the two number one draft picks they offered for Crosby and went home after a physical was supposedly given to the Raiders All-Pro defensive end. Or is that really the reason?
It's not breaking news that Crosby would not be able to pass a physical at this time since he is still healing from the knee surgery that was performed back in January. That surgery was to repair a torn meniscus Crosby was dealing with in his left knee.
It seems like if the Ravens had the confidence in Crosby, they seemed to have last week when they had two first round picks on the table, they would have bypassed the physical or at least the current tests on his knee. There has to be something more there that spooked the Ravens to back out of this deal after pushing so hard to get the man.
Not only did the Ravens pull the okie dokie on the Raiders by backing out the Crosby trade merely hours before the office doors open for the new season, but they also already moved on and signed Trey Hendrickson from their division rivals in the Cincinnati Bengals. Does this not seem funny to everyone else? How is this even within the rules even though teams and players can back out of all handshake deals before the league doors actually open.
The Dallas Cowboys were also a team that was making a huge push to get deals done with Crosby and Hendrickson. According to different reports, that holdup was due to the mastermind known as Jerry Jones not wanting to give up the two first round picks the Raiders are requesting for the services of Crosby. Hendrickson was a free agent and of course was headed to the highest bidder.
Maybe Jerry had this one right for once not agreeing to the first-round picks even though the team has them in their back pockets if they do decide to make a big blockbuster deal. The Cowboys could still jump back in things here. It seems the team is making moves to clear out some big cap room even though they have their own free agents to get signed.
Personally, I think Crosby is a waste of money for the Cowboys. He may be an awesome player, but this is a team that needs a lot more moving parts than just a big named defensive end eating up a lot of salary cap they do not really have. Just use the picks the team has and draft smart. Pick up some decent free agents like the team did last year when they found wide receiver George Pickens and running back Javonte Williams.
The Raiders also had a lot of cap room. Even with the players they have signed since the phantom deal with the Ravens, Crosby could just stay put since the team added some depth they had been needing. Maybe this was just the oomf the Raiders needed to get things rolling.
