The Dallas Cowboys got their asses beat 47-9 by the Detroit Lions during their week five matchup on, Sunday. The loss is the worst at home in the short history of AT&T Stadium and the fourth straight after the Cowboys previously had a 16 game win streak in front of the faithful.
Even though the Cowboys got beat worse than a throw rug by the Lions it was not the worst in team history. That honor goes to the Chicago Bears, another NFC North team. That was a 44-0 beatdown by a legendary 1985 Bears team. The losing streak also started last season when the Green Bay Packers shattered the Cowboys Super Bowl hopes 48-32 in a game the Cowboys jumped out to a 27-0 lead in.
The Cowboys just suck when it comes to playing the NFC North. That division has been a thorn in the side of the Cowboys for years. If it isn't the Bears, Lions and Packers beating the hell out the Cowboys it's the Vikings thrashing the team in the playoffs with an aging Brett Favre or Randy Moss torching the team on Thanksgiving Day. The Cowboys should try to avoid the NFC North at all costs. It is never going to end well.
It was a horrible game to watch from the Cowboys first drive all the way to the end. At some parts almost unbearable to watch. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is the most overrated overpaid player in the league. That guy can't help but throw interceptions in the redzone. Even when Dak isn't turning the ball over they continuously blow drives when they get into a scoring position. If it wasn't for kicker Brandon Aubrey things would be even worse for the Cowboys right now. It's Aubrey keeping the team in games with his leg.
It was Aubrey that scored all the Cowboys points this week. He probably could've put more points on the board but the Cowboys were forced to go for it on most of their fourth downs this week.
This was by far the worst game by Prescott this year if not in his career. Dak finished the game with 17 of 33 completed passes for 178 yards, two interceptions and four sacks. Pretty sad for a guy that just signed a quarter billion dollar contract.
Prescott once again didn't get any help from his running backs. Rico Dowdle had five carries for 25 yards and Ezekiel Elliot stunk it up once again with eight carries for 17 yards.
Dowdle made the most of the six passes that flew his way with five receptions for 30 yards to go with his poor day on the ground.
Elliot is a complete waste of money and roster spot for any team at this point. That guy has completely sucked since he signed his big contract years ago. That guy fooled everybody coming out of college.
The Cowboys have Dalvin Cook on the practice squad but won't use him in games for some reason. What can it hurt to put Cook in? Things cannot get any worse for the Cowboys running game than it already is.
The Cowboys should have bellied up the money for Derrick Henry in the offseason. Instead the Cowboys management is splitting up what they could've paid one guy for a few bums that need to be sacking groceries somewhere.
The Cowboys offense had four turnovers in the game. The other two turnovers were fumbles by KaVontae Turpin and Ryan Flounery trying to do too much.
The shining spots from the Cowboys offense were very few but they came from CeeDee Lamb when he was able to haul in the ball. Lamb finished with seven receptions for 89 yards but was targeted 14 times.
Cowboys receiver Jalen Tolbert was the other Cowboys receiver that Dak could somewhat depend on to catch a ball but still struggled to get open most of the game. Tolbert had four receptions for 43 yards.
The horrible play by the Cowboys offense once again bled over to the teams defense. Things were real bad this week for the defense against the Lions high powered offense. The best thing for the defense would have been for the offense to manage the clock better but that didn't happen. What we saw was a defense getting burned on every Lions possession.
It was one big play after the other by the Lions offense. When Lions quarterback Jared Goff wasn't making big plays with his arm it was his two headed backfield thrashing the Cowboys offensive line on the ground.
Lions running back David Montgomery looked like an MVP against the Cowboys defense. One touchdown run Montgomery ran through tackles and drug a Cowboys player into the endzone with him.
The only downside to the Lions all day was when all badass Aidan Hutchinson suffered a broken leg when he was sacking Prescott. Hutchinson will be out for the rest of the season but that Lions defense will keep making huge stops for the rest of the season. They are stacked deep in Detroit at all positions on both sides of the ball if you really look at their active roster.
It was a complete nightmare for Cowboys fans once again. This team was a nightmare on offense and couldn't stop a fart with butt plugs with the defense.
The Cowboys need to figure something out this upcoming week. They are on a bye and need some time off in a bad way. Maybe some of these injured players will get well enough to get back on the field in a couple of weeks. Even then if changes are not made and players brought in things will not get much better for the rest of the season. This is a team that could possibly be playing for a top 10 draft pick for the first time in years.
