Week 8: The Cowboys Face the 49ers Coming Off a Much Needed Bye Week

During week 8 of the NFL season the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers renew their rivalry when they square off in Cali. The 49ers have a 20-19-1 all-time record against the Cowboys in 40 meetings over the years.

This week is a must win week for both teams. The Cowboys are coming off their best performance of the season with a week 7 bye while the 49ers took a 28-18 L from the Kansas City Chiefs. The last time the Cowboys stepped on the field they were drummed 47-9 by the Detroit Lions during week 6 of the season.

The Cowboys are sitting in third place in the NFC East with a 3-3 record while the 49ers are currently 3-4 and third place in the NFC West. The 49ers are currently favored by four points with the o/u set at 46.5 points. This is a game that both teams need to win. This is a game that both teams can't really afford to lose unless they are playing for a better draft pick instead of playoff position.

The Cowboys really need this one. The team has looked awful all season long. Even in the games they won minus week 1 against the Cleveland Browns were pretty hard to watch.

This is a Cowboys team that had extremely high hopes coming into the season only to let us all down once again with their play on the field. This is a team that has not jelled at all and looks completely lost at times. Might have a lot to do with key players not playing during the preseason when all the bugs are supposed to get worked out.

Instead the Cowboys had wide receiver CeeDee Lamb boycott the off-season over money and contract issues. We saw all the backups get time on the field while Dak Prescott demanded more money to only suck once again when he got paid, again.

This is a Cowboys team that is soft and getting pushed around up and down the field on both offense and defense. A team that has no discipline sitting 11th most with 47 penalties. A team that is fifth in giveaways with 11 turnovers but is 26th in the league with five takeaways.

It really doesn't help when the quarterback drives the team down the field only to turn the ball over in the RedZone. If not for kicker Brandon Aubrey, the Cowboys wouldn't really be able to score this season. Aubrey accounted for all the teams points against the Lions while Dak threw the ball to the defense every chance he got.

Not just against the Lions either. It seems like every game Dak drives the team down only to throw an interception in the end zone or stall out the drive one way or the other. It's not all Dak either. This team couldn't run the ball if defenses left holes open for the Cowboys backs.

Ezekiel Elliot has once again been the biggest waste of off-season money. Elliot has been a complete bust since he signed his first contract with the Cowboys. The Cowboys should've left him alone instead of giving him more money to do absolutely nothing.

Rico Dowdle isn't a bad back. He's just not a feature back like the team needs. Like the team had a chance to get in Derrick Henry this past off-season but didn't. Instead the team ended up with a washed up Zeke and a back that hasn't even made the active roster in Dalvin Cook.

Move Cook to the roster and let him play. See what the guy has. If he stinks it up then let him then nothing is lost. If he runs like he stole something then the team has a feature back once again. There is literally nothing left to lose by letting the veteran play a game.

The Cowboys are going to need their running game this week to take the 49ers pass rush off Dak. This offensive line will not hold up all game with Nick Bosa and the other 49ers defenders trying to get to the Cowboys struggling quarterback.

The Cowboys offense isn't the only issue with the team. This defense couldn't stop a nosebleed with a towel right now. A lot say it has to do with injuries to key players but honestly that isn't it. Even when Micah Parsons was in games this defense was getting burnt up and down the field. We still have not seen DaRon Bland yet. Hopefully both players are back on the field this week against the 49ers crippled offense.

The 49ers are dealing with injuries that have plagued their offense all season. Running back Christian McCaffrey still hasn't seen any action this season. Now the 49ers are missing DeeBo Samuel and Brandon Ayuik. Luckily the team hasn't suffered like the Cowboys have running the ball. The 49ers have a next back up system where it seems anyone can run the rock in.

If anything the injuries may actually balance the two teams out. This is still a game the 49ers should easily beat the Cowboys in. Until the Cowboys fix their running game, they will not win many more games this season. If anything the team may wanna tank the rest of the way and get one of the good draft picks to screw up in the 2025 NFL Draft.
